THE OPPORTUNITY
Versaffix is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead product development, strengthen engineering discipline and improve the quality, cost and manufacturability of our machinery products. You will combine technical leadership with daily involvement in SolidWorks, prototype building, production support and field troubleshooting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and deliver a prioritised tasks discussed and scheduled alongside the Managing Director
- Lead products from concept and SolidWorks modelling through prototype, testing, drawings, BOMs and production release.
- Own structured root-cause analysis and corrective design actions for field and warranty issues.
- Work with Production to improve quality, build time, material cost, rework and waste using lean and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Establish robust controls for drawings, revisions, BOMs, testing, design reviews and engineering changes.
- Lead two engineers, set priorities and build strong collaboration across Production, Sales, suppliers and customers.
- Provide practical technical judgement and clear recommendations to the Managing Director.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- At least 7 years of relevant design-engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
- Proven experience developing mechanical or electro-hydraulic machinery from concept to production.
- Strong 3D SolidWorks skills, including manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
- Very strong hydraulics knowledge and practical electrical understanding.
- Knowledge of steel fabrication, machining, prototyping and design for manufacture.
- Hands-on machinery troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capability.
- Experience leading projects and directing, mentoring or managing engineers.
- Commercial awareness, with evidence of cost reduction, lean improvement and reliable product delivery.
DESIRABLE
- Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent practical expertise in mechanical engineering.
- Experience in construction equipment, attachments, agricultural machinery or mobile plant.
- Knowledge of machinery safety, risk assessment, CE/UKCA and technical files.
- Exposure to controls/software integration and supplier development.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- A commercially aligned product roadmap is active and priority developments are progressing to agreed milestones.
- Warranty and repeat engineering issues are reduced through evidence-led corrective action.
- Engineering documentation and release controls are dependable, while Production benefits from measurable cost, quality or lead-time improvements.
