Senior Civil Engineer – Water Engineering

Overview

As a Senior Water Civil Engineer, you will lead the technical design of wastewater, clean water, and Better Rivers projects, guiding multi-disciplinary teams to deliver sustainable, cost-efficient solutions. You’ll manage client and contractor relationships, participate in project leadership, and help drive low-carbon initiatives. This role sits within Pick Everard’s national water capability and supports growing client work across the UK. You will mentor junior colleagues, contribute to bid opportunities, and uphold health, safety and regulatory standards. This is a people-facing, impact-driven role within a collaborative, growth-oriented firm.

Responsibilities

• Create designs from feasibility to construction for diverse projects
• Lead technical design for single and multi-disciplinary projects
• Appraise and design pumping stations, sewerage and water networks, surface water management, blue/green infrastructure, detention tanks
• Mentor junior colleagues and support their development
• Represent the firm at client meetings and contribute to winning new work
• Support project and team management and propose affordable, sustainable low-carbon solutions
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements and procedures

Key requirements

• Degree in civil engineering or equivalent, working towards a professional qualification
• Chartered or near Chartered with ICE or CIWEM
• CEng with post-chartered relevant experience or IEng with post-incorporated relevant experience in wastewater
• Experience managing wastewater and/or cleanwater infrastructure schemes
• Good knowledge of industry design software packages
• Excellent communication skills and a team player attitude
• Strong report writing and presentation skills at project level
• Experience with various contract forms
• Ability to liaise with clients and collaborate with inter-disciplinary teams
• Proven mentoring and technical management abilities
• Desirable: experience in writing and presenting reports and tendering/work-winning
