Principal Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead civil engineering for energy projects from concept to detailed design, delivering robust solutions and documentation. You’ll collaborate across an international, multidisciplinary team to drive feasibility, design reviews, and site support, while managing safety, sustainability, and commercial risks. You help shape project outcomes through practical guidance and mentoring, contributing to AFRY’s mission of sustainable, digitalised energy. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to influence major energy initiatives and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering from concept to detailed design, producing drawings, specifications, estimates and schedules
• Provide technical guidance, review designs, and resolve project challenges with hands-on expertise
• Prepare reports and documentation and support site activities through inspections and construction monitoring
• Identify and mitigate risks related to health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial factors
• Represent the company professionally, support business development, and mentor junior engineers

Key requirements

• Bachelor in Civil Engineering
• Chartered Engineer status
• Detailed working knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards (UK energy sector)
• Desirable: detailed civil/structural design experience including foundation design
• Desirable: experience with site surveys/investigations and multi-disciplinary consulting
• Desirable: CAD experience (Revit, AutoCAD) and BIM tools
