Network Operations Engineer – high frequency trading

Overview

In this role you will maintain and optimize mission-critical trading networks within a top prop trading house in London. You’ll work as part of a small, world-class team to monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and support complex network infrastructure including microwave planning and proprietary black boxes. You’ll gain exposure to sophisticated trading networks and contribute to high-availability operations in a fast-paced financial environment. This is a senior, hands-on role for those who enjoy deep technical challenges and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues
• Conduct complex engineering activities to maximize performance
• Learn and apply microwave network planning including frequency and interference analysis
• Support and configure proprietary black boxes
• Daily health checks and monitoring using proprietary and industry-standard tools
• Support project implementations
• Determine power configuration and forecast capacity requirements

Key requirements

• BSc in a computer or network-based subject
• 3+ years of commercial network operations experience
• Experience with Cisco and Juniper networking technologies
• Keen interest in working with proprietary hardware (black boxes)
• Scripting skills (Python, Perl, Shell, Java, JavaScript)
• Linux administration skills
• Self-driven and able to work independently
• Problem solving and eagerness to learn new technologies
• Ability to engineer projects and produce required documents
• Willingness to be on call and work extra hours
• Bonus: radio/microwave experience
• Bonus: configuration management experience (Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
