Senior Construction Planner

Overview

As Senior Planner at Wates, you lead the development and management of detailed construction programmes for high-value London commercial schemes, from pre-construction through to completion. You work closely with project teams, clients and subcontractors to implement robust planning strategies, monitor progress, and manage risks with recovery plans where needed. The role combines strategic programme leadership with hands-on planning to maximise efficiency and ensure delivery of landmark developments. Responsibilities

• Develop and manage detailed project programmes from tender through to project completion
• Lead planning on complex commercial office developments, including new build and refurbishment/cut-and-carve schemes
• Produce tender programmes, logistics strategies, phasing plans and construction methodologies
• Monitor progress against milestones and identify variances
• Perform critical path analysis and flag programme risks early
• Develop recovery and mitigation plans for delays
• Collaborate with operations to ensure programme ownership during delivery
• Present programme updates to clients, consultants and senior stakeholders
• Support bid submissions and pre-construction planning
• Contribute to continuous improvement and planning best practice

Key requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Planner, Project Planner or Planning Manager in main contracting
• Strong track record delivering commercial office new builds in London
• Experience on cut-and-carve refurbishment schemes in occupied/urban settings
• Understanding of construction sequencing, logistics, temporary works and buildability
• Experience managing programmes through pre-construction and live construction
• Advanced Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project skills
• Excellent knowledge of construction methodologies and project controls
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering; CIOB/APM membership desirable
