Senior / Principal Power Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role you will develop and deliver grid connection services for utility-scale renewable projects across the UK and Ireland, collaborating with global Power & Energy clients. You will apply power system studies and grid code expertise to support siting, feasibility, commissioning, and ongoing compliance. Responsibilities

• Support electrical design through power system studies
• Conduct detailed grid code compliance analyses using PSCAD, PowerFactory, and PSS/E
• Participate in interdisciplinary project reviews
• Perform grid connection due diligence including prospecting, optioneering, risk and capacity assessments
• Contribute to PS&E package components across disciplines
• Develop construction cost estimates and technical effort budgets
• Support quality control reviews of design calculations/drawings
• Create technical specification sections
• Input to engineering budget and schedule planning
• Engage with OEMs and clients to steer technical outcomes
• Assist with bids and proposals

Key requirements

• Proven experience in Engineering Design Consultancy or OEM/Utility planning
• Knowledge of transmission and distribution planning and customer connection processes
• Strong understanding of UK Grid Code and related guidelines (G99, G5/5, P28); Ireland Grid Code knowledge beneficial
• Proficiency in PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Python scripting
• Desirable experience with PSSE and ETAP
• Understanding of high voltage protection, control systems, generators, transformers, and reactive equipment
• Basic understanding of power electronics in renewable tech
• Excellent written and oral communication
