Senior Public Health Lead

Overview

As Senior Public Health Lead, you will shape cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention efforts, steering evidence-based programmes across Surrey. You’ll work with NHS partners, local authorities, and VCSE groups to reduce health inequalities and improve population health. The role blends strategic leadership with programme development, commissioning, and performance management to deliver measurable health gains. This is an influential, collaborative position with a clear focus on prevention and system-wide improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention initiatives
• Develop, commission and manage public health services for measurable outcomes and value for money
• Coordinate performance management and continuous improvement of prevention programmes
• Influence senior stakeholders and drive system-wide change through partnership working
• Build relationships with NHS, district councils, and community partners to shape priorities and actions
• Champion collaborative approaches to improve population health and reduce inequalities
• Lead management and development of staff within a positive team culture
• Ensure programmes align with evidence and intelligence to inform policy and practice

Key requirements

• Significant experience leading and delivering public health programmes and projects
• Expertise translating evidence into practice and policy
• Experience of commissioning, contract management and budget oversight
• Strong analytical, programme management and strategic planning skills
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change
• Experience of working with health, local authorities, and voluntary/community sectors
