Overview

In this executive role, you will lead the commercial function for UK civils & infrastructure programmes, ensuring robust financial performance and governance. You work with cross-functional teams to shape commercial strategy across highways, utilities, rail, and public-sector frameworks. You will own risk management, bid governance, and dispute avoidance to protect margins and deliver value. You will partner with clients, JV partners, and subcontractors to enable major project delivery. This is a strategic leadership role with impact across the business’ commercial culture and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute commercial strategy for civils portfolios
  • Lead QS, commercial managers, and project commercial teams
  • Oversee NEC3/NEC4 contract administration and dispute avoidance
  • Own P&L, margin protection, cost forecasting, CVRs, and reporting
  • Lead risk reviews, mitigation, and value-engineering initiatives
  • Provide governance for major bids, frameworks, and tenders
  • Engage with clients, JV partners, subcontractors, and public-sector bodies
  • Direct claims strategy, negotiation, and resolution
  • Ensure consistent use of commercial systems, dashboards, KPIs, and governance processes
  • Ensure compliance with UK procurement rules and internal policies

Key requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Construction Economics
  • 10+ years’ commercial experience in UK civils & infrastructure
  • Proven leadership of commercial teams on major projects (50m–500m+)
  • Strong NEC3/NEC4 contract management and dispute resolution expertise
  • Track record of margin protection, cost control, and governance
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills
  • Strong financial acumen with CVRs, forecasting, and P&L ownership
