Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role, you apply structural steel design and engineering expertise to translate concepts into buildable fabrication and erection solutions. You work with fabrication, detailing, and project teams to ensure practical designs that meet standards while supporting project delivery. You will review drawings, perform checks, and contribute to design efficiency and manufacturing processes. This position offers variety across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects within a supportive, fabrication-led environment.

Responsibilities

• Produce structural steel designs, calculations, and detailed engineering solutions
• Collaborate with fabrication and design teams to ensure practical, buildable solutions
• Interpret architectural/engineering drawings to develop structural concepts and connections
• Carry out design checks and ensure compliance with UK standards and Eurocodes
• Liaise with project managers, detailers, and workshop teams throughout the lifecycle
• Support technical queries during fabrication and erection phases
• Contribute to continuous improvement in design efficiency and fabrication methods
• Attend internal and external project meetings as required

Key requirements

• Proven experience as a Structural Engineer within structural steel or a fabrication-led environment
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication, connection design, and construction methods
• Experience with Tekla Structures or similar detailing/design software (desirable)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and Eurocodes
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with design, fabrication, and site teams
• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
