Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide geotechnical technical leadership across a major rail infrastructure programme. You will advise on design and construction, assure technical standards, and support ground investigations, foundations and earthworks. You will work with delivery teams, designers and contractors to ensure a consistent, technically sound approach. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role that shapes project decisions through expert geotechnical input. You will operate as a SME, driving technical confidence and risk-informed solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide geotechnical leadership and technical support across the programme
• Perform technical assurance of design and construction activities
• Respond to RFIs, technical queries and departures
• Contribute to development and review of technical standards and specifications
• Support ground investigation, foundations, earthworks and geotechnical engineering activities
• Identify technical issues and root causes and propose effective solutions
• Collaborate with delivery teams, designers, contractors and stakeholders to ensure consistency

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or related discipline
• Chartered status or professional membership or equivalent experience
• Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, ideally on major infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of ground investigation, foundations, earthworks and geotechnical design and construction
• Experience applying technical standards and undertaking technical assurance
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience analysing data and reporting findings to support decision-making
• Understanding of NEC3 contracts, commercial, risk and interface management
