Overview

As Principal Fire Protection Engineer at AECOM, you will lead high‑impact fire protection design across complex buildings and infrastructure projects. You’ll bridge technical delivery with client engagement, shaping safety outcomes and project success within a multidisciplinary national team. You’ll guide design strategy, ensure compliance with NCC and Australian standards, and mentor engineers to build strong in-house capability. Responsibilities

• Lead fire protection design and delivery across complex projects from concept to commissioning
• Provide high‑level input across wet/dry fire protection systems (hydrants, hose reels, sprinklers, alarm/detection, EWIS/evacuation)
• Oversee compliance with NCC, Australian Standards, and authorities to ensure safety, quality and performance
• Act as a key client interface, supporting project acquisitions and business development
• Mentor engineers and develop technical capabilities within the team
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, and specialist engineers for integrated solutions
• Contribute to discipline strategy, standards, and continuous improvement across the practice

Key requirements

• 9+ years’ experience in Fire Protection / Services Engineering in consultancy or related environments
• Experience leading medium to large multi‑disciplinary projects and coordinating teams
• Strong technical capability across fire suppression, water infrastructure, detection and EWIS systems (wet/dry)
• Ability to manage client relationships and lead bid/holding outcomes
• Relevant engineering degree with professional accreditation (NER, RPEQ or FPAS – Fire Systems Design) or eligibility
• Experience using Hyena, Revizto, Revit or AutoCAD
• Australian Citizenship is highly preferred
