Overview

In this role, you will lead real estate tax advisory work within a senior-led team, partnering with clients to shape deal-related decisions from inception to completion. You’ll gain exposure to live UK real estate transactions with international aspects, collaborating with tax, legal, and finance professionals. You’ll apply AI-enabled tools to enhance analysis while delivering practical, commercially focused advice that supports client objectives and value creation. This is an opportunity to develop broad technical and client relationship skills in a dynamic, international practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tax due diligence on corporate real estate acquisitions; supervise junior staff and other specialists
  • Lead tax structuring for acquisitions, refinancing, reorganisations and disposals; draft practical, well-supported advice
  • Build and maintain client relationships with existing and target clients and other connectors (e.g., lawyers)
  • Support related workstreams such as funds flows analysis, financial due diligence, and SPA negotiation
  • Advise on tax modelling for deal underwriting and optimal holding structures (e.g., REITs, JPUTs, exempt elected structures)
  • Manage post-transaction workstreams (treaty relief, elections, real estate regimes) and ad hoc client requests
  • Advise landlords/occupiers on lease transactions (incentives, renewals, dilapidations, surrenders)
  • Keep up-to-date with technical developments and contribute to thought leadership
  • Coordinate with tax compliance and reporting teams for annual UK returns
  • Lead client calls and stakeholder discussions; manage risk and engagement administration
  • Delegate to/junior team development; support business development for real estate tax services
  • Oversee project finances (WIP, billing) and responsibly use AI tools to enhance research and drafting

Key requirements

  • Significant post-qualification experience in real estate or M&A tax advisory for UK assets with international inbound investment
  • Strong knowledge of real estate tax areas (REITs, exempt elected structures, JPUTs) and corporate tax issues (CIR, anti-hybrid rules)
  • Working knowledge of SDLT, VAT, CIS, WHT, and capital allowances in real estate context
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to both tax and non-tax audiences
  • Understanding of commercial drivers for real estate investors and ability to frame advice accordingly
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to independently perform technical analysis and manage project subsets
  • Outgoing, team-oriented, and capable of interacting with colleagues at all levels
  • Track record of developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Ability to prioritise workload under pressure and delegate effectively
  • Proven ability to take ownership of projects and manage client expectations with senior support
  • Collaborative with colleagues inside and outside tax teams; adaptable to new technologies
