Senior/Principal Hardware Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will lead hardware design activities for safety-critical electronics in defence and aerospace projects. You will work within an established hardware team to drive capture, design, validation and certification across the lifecycle. This position emphasizes solving complex electronics challenges while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable hardware on time and within budget. Responsibilities

• Lead hardware requirements capture and both preliminary and detailed design
• Execute complex digital and/or analogue electronics design tasks per development plans
• Perform analysis and validation to support robust technical decisions
• Provide technical guidance across the systems development lifecycle from concept to certification
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise solutions and manage dependencies
• Support delivery of reliable hardware within timescales and budgets
• Contribute to product design and work package control with cost and schedule awareness
• Coach and develop junior hardware engineers

Key requirements

• Degree, HND or equivalent in electronics engineering
• Significant experience in electronics design in a regulated industry
• Strong knowledge of digital and/or analogue electronics technologies
• Experience across the full engineering lifecycle including DO-254 product certification
• Understanding of systems engineering, hardware standards and safety-critical development
• Ability to balance design quality, cost and schedule constraints
• Robust understanding of product design and work package control
• Familiarity with Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise, SIMetrix and LTspice
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills
