Director of Allied Health Professionals

Overview

In this role you lead Allied Health Professions across the trust, shaping professional practice and ensuring high standards of care. You align AHP contributions with the clinical and quality strategies, workforce plans, and transformation priorities. You provide assurance to board-level stakeholders on quality, safety, and governance, while stewarding AHP education and professional standards. You influence system-wide care models and drive strategic change with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional leadership for AHPs across all sites and ensure high-quality, consistent services
• Set strategic direction for AHP practice and embed AHP contribution in trust strategies
• Offer executive-level assurance on quality, safety, workforce, and governance, including professional standards
• Lead on initiatives related to AHP governance, education, research, and clinical quality
• Collaborate with Hospital DoNs, ICS partners, and Nursing leadership to improve care models
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with professional codes of conduct
• Support and manage AHPs in difficulty with regulators and professional bodies
• Advocate for patient and staff voices in service design and delivery

Key requirements

• AHP qualification with HCPC registration
• NHS acute hospital experience (preferably teaching hospital)
• Masters or higher professional qualification; postgraduate in clinical education or governance
• Experience in clinical governance and demonstrating strategic vision
• Proven leadership in large complex organisations and change management
• Satisfactory health screening and enhanced DBS checks
• UK professional registration and eligibility to work in the UK
• Knowledge of NHS infrastructure and recent reforms
