Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Overview

In this role you contribute to Cellular Pathology by supporting histology services across sites. You will work within a busy lab to perform dissection, embedding, microtomy, special stains and IHC, while upholding quality systems. You will help implement best practices and develop through a modernising lab environment that includes Digital Pathology and IT upgrades. The role offers cross-site collaboration and opportunities to grow into laboratory and senior practice paths.

Responsibilities

• Dissection/loading, embedding, microtomy, special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows
• Operate within standard operating procedures and support process improvements
• Maintain quality management systems and manage records, assets, and analysers
• Contribute to corrective and preventive actions and incident resolution
• Support with IT system upgrades and the rollout of Digital Pathology
• Collaborate across sites within the Histology Department and wider Cellular Pathology services

Key requirements

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent ratified by IBMS
• HCPC registration
• Post-registration specialist competency portfolio or equivalent
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and HCPC guidelines proficiency
• Experience in a clinical laboratory and familiarity with histology-related techniques
• Knowledge of biomedical science theory across Haematology, Transfusion, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Cellular Pathology
• Quality control and assurance practices; laboratory health and safety
