Cleaning Services Manager

Location: Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC)

About Cleanmaster and the EICC

Cleanmaster is extremely proud to be delivering the professional cleaning services for the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). The EICC is a premier global destination for conferences and events situated in the Heart of Edinburgh city centre. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Cleaning Services Manager to lead our cleaning operation at the EICC and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation are maintained across the venue.

This is a fast-paced, event-driven role where no two days are the same. From conferences and exhibitions to major events, you will play a key role in ensuring the venue is presented to an exceptional standard for clients, delegates, visitors and the EICC team.

The Role

As Cleaning Services Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the venue is ready for some of Edinburgh’s major conferences, exhibitions and events, often working to tight turnaround times and changing operational requirements.

You will lead and motivate a team of cleaning operatives, plan resources around the busy events calendar and work closely with the EICC team to ensure all cleaning requirements are delivered efficiently and to the highest possible standard.

The role requires excellent organisational and leadership skills, as well as the flexibility to respond to changing event requirements. Your normal working pattern will be 45 hours per week, usually working 5 days out of 7, although this will vary depending on the EICC’s event schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the day-today cleaning operation at the EICC, ensuring consistently high standards are maintained across conference and meeting rooms, public areas, washrooms, circulation areas, catering spaces and back-of-house areas
  • Lead, motivate and support a team of cleaning operatives, ensuring effective performance, teamwork and high levels of service.
  • Plan staffing levels, rotas and resources around the EICC’s busy events calendar, ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time.
  • Coordinate pre-event, during-event and post-event cleaning, ensuring rooms and facilities are prepared and maintained to the required standard.
  • Manage event changeovers and turnaround cleaning, ensuring spaces are cleaned, reset and ready within agreed timescales.
  • Monitor cleaning requirements throughout events and ensure adequate staffing is available to respond to high footfall and peak periods.
  • Manage reactive cleaning requirements, responding promptly to spills, accidents, unexpected cleaning needs and last-minute event requirements.
  • Work closely with EICC venue management, event operations, facilities and other departments to understand requirements and deliver a seamless cleaning service.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections and audits, ensuring cleaning standards are consistently achieved, and any issues are addressed promptly.
  • Ensure the cleaning operation meets agreed service standards, client expectations and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor team performance and provide coaching, training and support to maintain and develop cleaning standards.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment, materials, consumables and stock are effectively managed and available to meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure all cleaning activities are carried out safely and in accordance with Cleanmaster’s procedures, health and safety requirements and COSHH regulations.
  • Support the recruitment, induction and ongoing development of cleaning team members where required.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, including improving cleaning processes, efficiency, presentation standards and customer experience.
  • Take a hands-on approach, particularly during busy event periods, to ensure the team and venue continue to operate to the required standard.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships across all operational teams, representing the cleaning function at planning meetings and ensuring cleaning requirements are fully integrated into event and venue operations.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a cleaning management or supervisory role.
  • Experience managing a team within a busy environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to plan and manage staffing around an event schedule.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • The ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • A flexible approach to working hours and changing operational requirements.
  • A positive, professional and customer-focused attitude.
  • The confidence to work closely with clients and venue management.
  • A proven ability to train, coach and develop team members, creating a positive and supportive working environment.

Experience in an events, hospitality, conference or other large-scale operational environment would be advantageous, but is not essential. We are looking for someone with strong cleaning management experience, excellent leadership and organisational skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards of service.

What We Offer

  • £36,300 per annum
  • 45 hours per week
  • 28 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays
  • The opportunity to manage a high-profile cleaning operation within one of Edinburgh’s leading events venues
  • A varied and fast-paced working environment
  • The opportunity to lead and develop a dedicated cleaning team

Cleanmaster is committed to providing equality of opportunity and to creating a working environment where all employees are treated fairly, with dignity and respect, and are free from discrimination, intimidation or harassment.

All employees have a responsibility for their own behaviour and for contributing to a positive, inclusive and respectful working environment.

Cleanmaster reserves the right to vary the duties of the post through the addition, deletion or amendment of tasks where reasonably required to meet the operational needs of the business and the requirements of the EICC.

The post holder may also be required to undertake other reasonable duties associated with the role and appropriate to their level of responsibility.
