Site Engineer – Electrical

Overview

In this role you will drive on-site electrical execution for renewable energy projects in the UK, supporting solar PV and battery energy storage installations. You will work within Metlen Renewable Energy to ensure alignment with design and safety standards, coordinating with civil and mechanical teams to keep projects on track. You will supervise subcontractors, review drawings and test documentation, and support pre-commissioning and handover. This position combines hands-on field delivery with a commitment to quality, safety, and delivery excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee electrical subcontractors during LV/MV installation (cabling, panels, switchgear, transformers, inverters)
• Ensure installations meet design specs with focus on cable routing, segregation, terminations, earthing and bonding
• Interpret and review electrical drawings, SLDs, and cable schedules
• Support inspection, testing and commissioning activities including insulation resistance and continuity testing
• Collaborate with civil and mechanical teams for smooth project execution
• Monitor site progress and subcontractor performance, addressing risks and delays
• Maintain quality and testing documentation with full traceability
• Support pre-commissioning, energisation and final handover
• Uphold health, safety and environmental standards on site

Key requirements

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or related field
• At least 3 years’ experience in electrical site engineering within construction or renewable energy projects
• Strong experience supervising subcontractors and delivering electrical works on-site
• Solid understanding of LV/MV systems, grid connections, inverters and renewable infrastructure
• Familiarity with testing, commissioning and QA/QC processes
• Knowledge of UK regulations including IET Wiring Regulations and G99/G100 standards
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation
• Experience in multi-disciplinary site teams in fast-paced environments
