Lead site Engineer

Overview

As Lead Site Engineer in the Metlen Renewables Division, you will drive on-site coordination of multidisciplinary construction activities to deliver safe, high-quality projects. You will act as the primary interface for the Project Manager, leading site teams and coordinating subcontractors to ensure schedule, budget, and quality expectations are met. The role emphasizes proactive planning, risk management, and strong HSE performance across a major renewable energy portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership position at the heart of large-scale project delivery with a focus on continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate site staff including Site Engineers, Junior Engineers, Supervisors, Logistics, and QA/QC personnel
• Serve as the on-site representative for the Project Manager, communicating progress, risks, and resource needs
• Plan and prioritise daily work fronts with the Construction Manager
• Coordinate interfaces between subcontractors, METKA-EGN teams, and project management
• Lead daily coordination meetings and discipline briefings
• Develop and monitor 1–4 week look-ahead programmes across construction disciplines
• Sequence work to minimise clashes and maximise productivity
• Monitor manpower, plant, and resources; escalate any issues early
• Review drawings, ITPs, RAMS, and technical docs to ensure readiness for execution
• Provide technical support to subcontractors and coordinate design queries with the engineering team
• Manage civil, mechanical, and electrical interfaces for effective delivery
• Lead site inspections and verify compliance with quality standards and RAMS
• Support QA/QC activities when on-site resources are limited
• Track subcontractor productivity and mitigate delays
• Promote HSE culture and ensure RAMS and safe systems of work compliance
• Support toolbox talks, HSE meetings, and incident investigations when required
• Consolidate progress reports and maintain records of site activities and decisions
• Support pre-commissioning, testing, inspections, and handover with complete documentation
• Mentor Site Engineers and junior staff, driving continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or related engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in large-scale construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary site teams
• Strong knowledge of UK construction practices, CDM Regulations, QA/QC, and site management
• Experience with construction planning, look-ahead scheduling, and progress reporting
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, RAMS, and construction programmes
• Understanding of civil, mechanical, and electrical interfaces
• Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
• Strong problem-solving, proactive planning, and ability to manage multiple fronts
• High safety, quality, integrity, and teamwork commitment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Full UK Driving Licence
