At Bandrum Nursing Home, being a Care Assistant is about much more than completing a list of tasks. It is about getting to know the people that you care for, knowing how someone likes their morning routine, taking the time to have a conversation, encouraging someone to do something for themselves when they can, noticing when something isn’t quite right and sometimes simply being there when someone needs you.

THE ROLE
No two days in care are exactly the same.
As a Care Assistant, you will spend your time supporting residents with their individual needs while helping them maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life.
This will include:
- Supporting residents with personal care and daily routines
- Taking time to get to know residents and understand their individual preferences
- Encouraging independence and choice wherever possible
- Supporting residents to take part in activities, outings and appointments
- Building positive relationships with residents and their families
- Acting as a key worker for residents where required
- Contributing to individual care plans and resident reviews
- Recognising and reporting changes in a resident’s health or wellbeing
- Supporting residents safely with mobility and moving and handling
- Working closely with Nurses, Senior Carers and the wider team
- Helping to create a safe, welcoming and positive environment within the home
- Working in accordance with the SSSC Codes of Practice and Health and Social Care Standards
There will also be difficult days as working in care can involve supporting residents and families through challenging and emotional situations. You will always have colleagues around you, and teamwork is an important part of how we provide care.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
You will:
- Be a registered member with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
- Hold a valid PVG Scheme membership
- Have a genuine passion for caring and supporting others
- Have knowledge of the workings of a care environment
- Be committed to delivering person-centred care
- Be able to communicate effectively with residents, relatives and colleagues
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team
- Understand the importance of confidentiality and accurate record keeping
- Be willing to undertake the training required for your role
- Be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of our residents
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
It would be helpful if you already have:
- Previous experience within a care environment
- An SVQ Level II in Health and Social Care or equivalent
- Experience providing personal care
- Knowledge of moving and handling, infection prevention and health and safety
- Experience supporting people with a range of care needs
DON’T HAVE YOUR SVQ YET?
That doesn’t necessarily rule you out. If you don’t currently hold your SVQ Level II in Health and Social Care, we will support you to work towards the qualification within 2 years of joining the business.
£13.75 per hour

Full-time, permanent position. Please note – weekend work will be required.
