Senior Underwriter – Construction (CAR/EAR/DSU)

Overview

As Senior Underwriter for AXA XL’s Construction & Engineering team, you will deliver profitable, high-quality underwriting across CAR/EAR risks while shaping risk strategy and strengthening broker relationships. You will work within an established team to grow the portfolio, manage exposures, and provide risk management guidance to clients. This role offers influence over pricing, wordings, and portfolio steering in a regulated environment, with a clear impact on growth and profitability.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a broad construction risk portfolio with profitability emphasis
• Review submissions, wordings, inspection reports, and loss runs to assess risk quality
• Price risks considering technical costs, reinsurance structures, and expenses
• Operate within authority limits and contribute to planning and forecasting
• Monitor aggregate exposures, premium income, and portfolio performance
• Build and Maintain broker and client relationships to drive new business and retention
• Provide risk management guidance and cross-sell opportunities
• Oversee policy issuance, endorsements, and loss control reports
• Monitor and contribute to claims strategy and settlement discussions

Key requirements

• Proven experience underwriting construction projects with profitability
• Excellent understanding of the CAR/EAR market
• Established broker and client network, including renewable energy relationships
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Analytical, negotiation, and commercial capabilities
• Proficiency with pricing tools and solid Excel knowledge
• Familiarity with broker manuscript and CAR/EAR wordings
• Understanding of linesize management and portfolio steering
