Job Description:

We’re working with an established FMCG business to recruit a Business Development Manager to drive sales growth across the Midlands.

This is a hands-on commercial role focused on developing existing accounts, winning new business and increasing the distribution and visibility of a strong portfolio of consumer brands.

You’ll manage a diverse customer base across wholesale, cash & carry, independent retail and foodservice, vending, online retailers, manufacturers and gifting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow an existing customer portfolio across the Midlands.
  • Identify and convert new business opportunities across direct and indirect channels.
  • Build strong relationships with retailers, wholesalers and other commercial partners.
  • Increase product distribution, visibility and sales across the territory.
  • Develop customer and brand plans using a clear Sell-In / Sell-Out approach.
  • Conduct customer reviews using sales data and market insight to identify growth opportunities.
  • Develop commercial proposals and negotiate supply arrangements.
  • Execute promotional campaigns and brand activation plans.
  • Identify lapsed accounts, underperforming brands and opportunities for growth.
  • Work closely with Customer Services, Commercial, Operations and Telesales teams.
  • Manage your territory effectively through structured journey planning and customer prioritisation.
  • Help move customers towards digital and online ordering.
  • Attend relevant trade shows and industry events to generate new business.

About You

We’re looking for a commercially driven BDM with experience in sales, business development or account management, ideally within FMCG, food, drink or a related consumer environment.

You’ll need to be:

  • Confident building and developing customer relationships.
  • Comfortable winning new business as well as growing existing accounts.
  • Commercially minded with strong negotiation skills.
  • Organised and able to manage a large geographical territory.
  • Comfortable using sales data and insight to drive customer conversations.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously.
  • Passionate about developing brands, customers and sales.
