Crematorium Technician (Public Sector)

VANRATH are excited to be working closely to support with the role of a Crematorium Technician for a well established client within the local authority. This is initially a 3 month assignment with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities

• The effective operation of the cremators and any ancillary equipment through structured maintenance and working procedures.
• To undertake visual checks, record and monitor the cremation process reporting any defects and noncompliance with PG 5/2 (12) and all other legislative requirements.
• Undertake day-to-day duties, including monitoring and control of cremations by computer input; monitor analytical equipment – change filters and calibrate as required; compile statistical information and reports as required; resolve general technical problems during cremations and report any problems to the Assistant Crematorium Manager.
• To maintain records in a neat, secure, and easily accessible way to comply with the operation of the cremation permit.
• To carry out basic routine maintenance to cremators and ancillary equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ guidance, undertake diagnostic assessments for fault finding, implementing the relevant corrective action and inform the Assistant Crematorium Manager/ Manager of any issues requiring manufacturers’ intervention.
• To strictly observe and adhere to the Code of Cremation Practice and all subsequent amendments, as set out by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities and the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management Guiding Principles for Burial and Cremation.
• To follow all procedures for identification of the deceased and processing of cremated remains.
• To ensure the collection, identification, storage and final disposal of cremated remains is maintained correctly and documented in accordance with the crematorium’s policies and procedures.
• To provide cover and assist in the crematorium office, as required.
• To assist the Assistant Crematorium Manager in ensuring the provision of sufficient consumables for the efficient running of the crematory, including cremated remains boxes, Factivate and machine parts.

Ideal Candidate

• Hold an Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme (CTTS) accreditation to operate a cremator or be willing to complete the necessary training and successfully complete the professional qualification within a timeframe agreed with the Crematorium Manager.
• A minimum of 1 years’ relevant experience that includes direct responsibility for each of the following:

• a) The ability to assess working processes accurately, reporting any discrepancies and implementing actions, where necessary, to keep the service running.b) Providing high levels of customer care within a bereavement related industry

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Excellent customer service skills. Highly developed communication skills that demonstrate the ability to listen, understand, accurately interpret, record and report on any issues that arise.
• Ability to exercise empathy and sensitivity when dealing with the bereaved and other service users where appropriate.
• Good knowledge of all basic Windows IT software.

Desirable Criteria

• A minimum of 1 years’ relevant demonstrable experience of working within a bereavement related industry;Crematorium & Cemetery Operations, Funeral Profession and Bereavement Liaison.
• An understanding of health and safety legislation.
• Knowledge of cremation legislation.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety and working practices in a bereavement related environment.
• Working knowledge of the operation and basic maintenance of cremators and other ancillary equipment.
• First aid certified or prepared to complete training

RemunerationCirca £33,573 plus pension, holiday pay and discount benefits.
