Family Law Legal Assistant / Paralegal MSD Solicitors | Full-time, Monday to Friday Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

MSD Solicitors is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our family law department, providing practical and administrative support to a senior family law fee earner. This is a hands-on support role involving divorce, financial remedies, child arrangements and domestic abuse matters. You will help progress files, prepare documents, manage deadlines and maintain clear communication with clients, with work allocated and reviewed according to your experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the senior fee earner with day-to-day case progression and file administration.
  • Prepare draft correspondence, court forms and other documents for review.
  • Assist with financial disclosure, including gathering documents and supporting the preparation of FormE.
  • Prepare and maintain court bundles, hearing packs, chronologies and indexes.
  • Liaise with clients to obtain instructions, documents and outstanding information.
  • Communicate with courts, counsel, experts and other parties as directed.
  • Monitor court directions and deadlines, maintain diaries and flag urgent tasks promptly.
  • Take accurate attendance notes and keep the case management system up to date.
  • Provide agreed progress updates to clients, referring legal queries to the responsible fee earner.
  • Maintain organised files and promptly escalated concerns, complaints or safeguarding issues.

About You

You should have:

  • Previous experience as a legal assistant or paralegal within a family law department.
  • A practical understanding of family law processes and documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and clear written communication.
  • A professional, empathetic approach to clients dealing with sensitive matters.
  • The ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively and recognise when guidance is needed.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with legal case management systems.
  • Experience preparing court bundles, assisting with financial disclosure and using the HMCTS divorce portal would be particularly valuable.
  • Legal qualifications or ongoing legal studies are welcome, but practical experience and the ability to provide reliable support are central to this role.
