Utility Surveyor

Overview

In this role you will lead PAS128-compliant underground utility surveys and related field activities across the UK as part of AECOM’s Buried Utilities team. You’ll balance field operations with data interpretation, CAD work, and reporting, while growing as a site lead and mentor for colleagues. You’ll collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient surveys that support major infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role with leadership and development opportunities in a global engineering firm.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PAS128-compliant underground utility surveys
• Capture and interpret GPR data on and off site
• Manage plant avoidance and borehole clearance activities
• Perform sewer line and level surveys
• Supervise subcontracted work
• Serve as site lead for surveys, including safety briefings
• Complete safety and operational paperwork
• Contribute to data interpretation, CAD production, and written reports
• Support internal team development and wider AECOM group promotion

Key requirements

• Experience in PAS128 utility surveys in various environments
• Extensive knowledge of utility surveying equipment (TPS/GNSS)
• Ability to lead buried utility surveys projects
• Mentor and train junior team members
• Strong AutoCAD knowledge
• NVQ in Utility detection (QCF Lv3/5)
• Driving License
• NRSWA Operative/Supervisor
• CSCS card
