We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Support Worker to join the Forensic Psychiatry Community Service on a full-time, permanent basis. This rewarding role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of adults with complex mental health needs across Cambridgeshire. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will provide ongoing support, therapeutic interventions, practical assistance, and problem-solving to service users under the supervision of a senior team member.
The Community Forensic Service delivers a 7-day-a-week service, supporting individuals in their recovery journey while promoting wellbeing, independence, and effective risk management within the community. No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working autonomously while building meaningful relationships with service users.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work with service users and the multidisciplinary team in an enthusiastic and conscientious way to ensure the delivery of high-quality recovery-focused care and support. The role will require a real desire and ability to engage with service users in a confident, compassionate and non-judgemental manner, with a primary focus of enabling recovery, well-being and independence.
The service works with adults with diagnoses of mental health conditions and/or learning disability who present with a risk of significant harm to others, to achieve optimal management of risk and minimise re-offending. The service adopts a compassionate and trauma-informed approach to promote relapse prevention and recovery, so enabling individuals to realise their full potential and support them to continue to live and build meaningful lives in the community. You will be joining an experienced team of professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, support workers, administrators) who all share a passion and drive for delivering high-quality care and treatment to service users with Forensic histories. The service runs 7 days a week (8am till 8pm), excluding bank holidays, and will include shift work on a rotational basis.
Education and Qualifications
- Essential
- Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3/AS Level or equivalent.
- Desirable
- Training in mental health or social care.
- Willingness to undertake further training.
Experience
- Essential
- Experience of working with people in a mental health or social care setting.
- Experience of working with service users with mental health difficulties and/or learning disability.
- Experience of working in a team environment.
- Knowledge of interventions used within mental health settings.
- Desirable
- Experience of working in the public/third sector.
- Experience of working with people in the Criminal Justice System.
- Able to transport service users by car and travel with them on public transport.
- Able to work evenings and weekends on a rotational basis depending on service demands.
- Ability to travel independently around Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
Knowledge and Skills
