Security Architect

Overview

In this role, you define and govern secure, resilient technology architecture for Arcadis’ Technology Function, translating business needs into scalable infrastructure and security solutions. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure platforms are secure by design and aligned to outcomes, while controlling risk and complexity. You’ll shape enterprise-wide architecture across on-prem, hybrid, multi-cloud and AI/data workloads, embedding security and resilience at every layer. You’ll lead architecture reviews, guardrails, and future-state roadmaps to drive sustainable, secure technology. This is a hands-on, influential role with a global impact on how we deliver sustainable solutions

Responsibilities

• Translate business and technology strategy into architectural principles, reference models and future-state roadmaps
• Design enterprise-wide infrastructure and platform architecture across on-prem, hybrid, multi-cloud, AI/ML foundations and edge
• Ensure interoperability, scalability, maintainability, performance and resilience across the IT estate
• Define and enforce architecture standards, controls and guardrails
• Embed secure by design and resilience principles into technology designs
• Govern design assurance through reviews and patterns
• Lead gap analyses between current and future states
• Define migration and modernization plans aligned to business priorities
• Assess readiness for AI workloads and data-intensive platforms
• Embed AI-driven infrastructure and automation approaches where appropriate
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture and domain teams for alignment across programs
• Engage with business, security, SOC, risk, legal, vendors and DevOps to balance requirements
• Provide architectural direction, coaching and mentoring to uplift capability
• Identify and assess architectural risk across platforms and data flows
• Provide evidence-based trade-off recommendations balancing speed, cost, risk, scalability and sustainability
• Prevent unnecessary complexity by enforcing standards and reducing duplication
• Embed security into DevOps and platform engineering (shift-left)
• Define threat modelling, detection engineering and secure runbook expectations
• Enable continuous threat exposure management across infrastructure and applications
• Deliver a coherent, secure global technology architecture
• Align roadmaps to business outcomes and operational needs
• Reduce technical debt and unmanaged complexity across the IT estate
• Accountable for health, safety and wellbeing of teams, promoting a people-first culture

Key requirements

• 8+ years’ experience in security-related architecture
• Proven track record defining and implementing enterprise architecture strategy across multiple towers
• Strong expertise in integration design, master data architecture, and interoperability frameworks
• Deep understanding of secure, resilient technology architecture and translating business drivers into scalable solutions
• Experience defining/enforcing architecture standards, controls and guardrails, embedding secure by design and resilience principles
• Strong knowledge of security architecture across platforms, data flows, and infrastructure landscapes (threat modelling, detection engineering, secure runbooks)
• Experience enabling continuous threat exposure management and embedding security into DevOps and platform engineering
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with cross-functional collaboration across EA, Cybersecurity, SOC, Risk, Legal, vendors and DevOps teams
• Analytical judgment and trade-off management balancing speed, cost, risk, scalability, sustainability
• Leadership style that empowers teams, promotes accountability and an inclusive culture
• Degree level education in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Advanced degree preferred in cybersecurity, information security, computer science or related field, or equivalent senior-level experience
