Athletics Northern Ireland is looking for an ambitious and passionate Children and Young Peoples Participation Manager to lead the growth and sustainability of The Daily Mile across Northern Ireland.
This exciting role will help more children and young people become active every day by growing participation in The Daily Mile, junior parkrun, the TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools and other initiatives that support healthier, happier and more active lifestyles.
Working with schools, government departments, health and education partners, athletics clubs, you will play a key role in creating opportunities for children to be active both in and beyond the school day.
The Role
You will provide strategic leadership for children and young peoples participation across Northern Ireland, managing the Northern Ireland Daily Mile Network Forum, building influential partnerships and championing programmes that improve health, wellbeing and physical activity.
This role combines strategic planning, partnership development, school engagement and communications, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building networks, sharing impact and driving meaningful change across Northern Ireland.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the growth and sustainability of The Daily Mile across Northern Ireland.
- Work with partners to increase participation in junior parkrun and the TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools.
- Building partnerships across education, sport, health, local government and the voluntary sector.
- Supporting the work with government and key stakeholders to influence policy and practice.
- Managing the Children and Young Peoples Participation Officer.
- Monitoring impact, reporting against KPIs and using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Developing compelling stories, case studies and evidence that demonstrate programme impact.
- Acting as an ambassador for Athletics NI and The Daily Mile Foundation.
About You
We’re looking for someone who can think strategically, work independently and build strong relationships across multiple sectors.
You will have:
- Experience working in schools, education, community or youth settings.
- Experience developing and managing partnerships.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience using data and insight to demonstrate impact.
- Experience managing or supporting staff.
- A good understanding of the factors influencing children and young people’s participation in physical activity.
- A passion for improving outcomes for children and young people.
Desirable
- Experience influencing policy or engaging with government departments.
- Knowledge of Northern Irelands education landscape.
- Understanding of The Daily Mile, junior parkrun, athletics or school sport programmes.
- Experience in a sport development environment.
