Your new role As Senior Health & Safety Lead, you will provide strategic and operational health and safety leadership across a major data centre campus, supporting project teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, environmental performance, quality and wellbeing are maintained throughout project delivery.Working closely with Project Directors, Project Managers and client representatives, you will act as the focal point for all Health & Safety matters while leading a team of site-based Health & Safety Managers. This is a senior position requiring a proactive leader who can drive safety culture, influence stakeholders at all levels and ensure compliance across a large and complex construction environment.Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing visible and effective health and safety leadership across a major data centre campus.
- Supporting Project Directors and Project Managers in the successful delivery of projects from a health and safety perspective.
- Acting as the primary interface with clients and client representatives on all H&S matters.
- Leading, mentoring and managing a team of Health & Safety Managers across the campus.
- Supporting the implementation and development of company-wide health and safety strategies and initiatives.
- Ensuring consistent application of company standards, procedures and policies across all project activities.
- Conducting health checks, inspections, audits and risk reviews in accordance with project requirements.
- Identifying and escalating potential risks and areas of concern before they impact project performance.
- Ensuring incidents and accidents are fully investigated, with lessons learned effectively communicated across project teams.
- Monitoring health and safety performance and preparing regular reports for senior management and clients.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory and enforcement agencies.
- Providing competent advice on legislative compliance and industry best practice.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing personnel at all levels to drive continuous improvement in safety culture.
- Supporting workforce wellbeing initiatives and promoting a positive and proactive safety environment.
- Identifying training and development needs within the health and safety function and supporting career progression for team members.
What you’ll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Health & Safety professional with a proven track record of leading safety performance on major construction, infrastructure, industrial, pharmaceutical or mission-critical projects.
You will possess:
- Experience within the construction industry.
- Extensive experience operating in a dedicated Health & Safety role.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Membership of IEMA or an equivalent professional body.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Strong leadership and people management experience, including developing and mentoring direct reports.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong understanding of construction health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
- High levels of professionalism, innovation and problem-solving ability.
- Strong IT and reporting skills.
The following would be advantageous:
- Lead Auditor qualification.
- Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or Construction Technology.
- Experience on large-scale data centre, pharmaceutical or mission-critical projects.
- Temporary Works Awareness training.
- Awareness of lifting operations including BS7121 or equivalent standards.
- Specialist knowledge in areas such as Behavioural Based Safety (BBS), Occupational Health, BIM or related disciplines.
- Given the nature of these projects, candidates must be willing to travel and work on a rotational basis across European project locations.
