Overview

As a Principal Software Engineer in the International Consumer Bank, you will help deliver an outstanding digital banking experience at scale. You’ll lead complex, scalable code and guide AI-enabled engineering workflows to accelerate delivery and ensure security and resiliency. You’ll collaborate across product, design, and compliance to ship customer-centric features under regulatory standards. This role offers the chance to shape consumer banking technology as the bank expands in Europe and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Create complex, scalable coding frameworks using established software design approaches.
  • Develop secure, high-quality production code and review peers’ work.
  • Architect and govern AI-enabled engineering workflows to boost speed, quality, and operational outcomes at scale, with guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, and reuse.
  • Leverage SDLC tools, including AI-assisted development and automation, to scale automation value.
  • Serve as a go-to subject matter expert within the function.
  • Contribute to advancing technical methods in line with modern product development.
  • Build durable, reusable software frameworks used across teams.
  • Influence senior leaders across business, product, and technology teams.
  • Lead design and delivery of consumer-facing features with high availability, low latency, and resilient architecture.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Compliance to ship customer-centric features that meet regulatory standards.

Key requirements

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts with advanced practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Expert proficiency in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience designing and leading agentic AI-enabled development practices with enterprise tools, including guardrails for validation, auditability, and secure data handling.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use, security, resiliency, data sensitivity, and governance; ability to influence senior technical leaders on safe scaling.
  • Experience solving complex technology problems across technical disciplines.
  • Solid understanding of business context and commercial drivers behind technology decisions.
  • Practical cloud-native experience.
  • Experience launching and scaling consumer-facing financial products in a regulated environment.
  • Proven track record delivering high-traffic, customer-facing systems with reliability, performance, and security at scale.
