As a Java Developer in a growing professional services firm, you will help transform a complex C++ legacy trading system into a modern Java-based solution. You’ll work closely with Front Office trading teams and fellow engineers to deliver robust, real-time trading systems, leveraging Java and Claude. The role sits in Newcastle, with a hands-on, collaborative pace that values practical problem solving and client communication. Responsibilities

• Modernize a legacy C++ trading system into a Java-based application
• Collaborate with Front Office trading teams and other engineers
• Develop robust, secure, real-time trading systems using Java (and Claude)
• Contribute to latency-aware, multithreaded backend development
• Engage in client-facing discussions and iterative delivery
• Work onsite in Central Newcastle on a full-time basis

Key requirements

• Strong backend, multithreaded Java development experience
• Knowledge of financial markets and trading systems
• Understanding of real-time system development and latency considerations
• Comfort using AI tools such as Claude
• Collaborative and client-facing communication skills
• C++ familiarity is beneficial but not essential
• Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent; top-tier university background
