Company Description Vital Signs Scotland is an approved ProTrainings and Nuco Training Centre delivering a wide range of accredited courses, including First Aid, First Aid for Mental Health, Safeguarding, Fire Safety, Moving and Handling, and Food Safety and Hygiene. The centre offers both in-person and online/blended learning options, from basic life support and CPR to advanced first responder and marine-environment first aid qualifications. Courses range from one to four days and cover First Aid at Work, adult first aid, and specialist certifications for different environments and needs. Vital Signs Scotland focuses on high-quality, practical training that helps individuals and organizations meet regulatory requirements and maintain safe, prepared workplaces and communities.
Role Description The First Aid Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based in Livingston. The instructor will deliver engaging and compliant first aid training sessions, including First Aid at Work, adult basic life support, CPR, and defibrillator use, following approved ProTrainings and Nuco curricula. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing training materials, setting up training spaces, demonstrating first aid techniques, supervising practical exercises, and assessing learner competence. The instructor will also adapt teaching methods to different audiences, provide clear feedback, maintain accurate training records and certification documentation, and support the development of new or updated course content. Collaboration with the training centre team to schedule courses, ensure equipment readiness, and uphold health and safety standards is an essential part of the role.
Qualifications
- Strong First Aid Training and First Aid skills, with the ability to demonstrate and assess practical techniques.
- Training and Teaching skills, including experience delivering structured courses to diverse learner groups.
- Excellent Communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and support learners with different levels of experience.
- Relevant first aid instructor or trainer certifications (e.g., First Aid at Work instructor, recognized teaching qualification) or willingness to obtain them.
- Knowledge of current first aid guidelines, safeguarding principles, and health and safety best practices.
- Ability to manage a classroom, maintain learner engagement, and handle emergency scenarios calmly and professionally.
- Strong organizational skills for scheduling, record-keeping, and preparing course materials and equipment.
- Experience in healthcare, emergency services, or occupational safety is advantageous.
