Associate – Professional Indemnity Construction

Overview

As an Associate in our Construction PI team, you will handle high‑value disputes for construction professionals and insurers, working with a cross‑border practice. You’ll defend claims, advise on policy coverage and risk strategy, and manage multiple dispute resolution processes. The role sits in our London office, collaborating with colleagues nationwide and internationally to grow the Construction PI offering. You will shape outcomes through technical analysis, effective drafting and client engagement, contributing to a high‑performing, client‑led team.

Responsibilities

• Defend claims against construction professionals such as architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
• Act for insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates, and global brokers in PI disputes.
• Advise on policy coverage, notifications and strategic claims management.
• Manage disputes involving alleged professional negligence, design errors, and project management failures.
• Support risk mitigation and pre‑action strategy for insurers and insureds.
• Navigate formal dispute resolution processes including litigation, arbitration, adjudication, mediation and negotiated settlements.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the UK and internationally on multi‑jurisdictional matters.
• Contribute to team development and share knowledge with junior colleagues.

Key requirements

• 4–7+ years PQE in Construction Professional Indemnity and/or professional negligence litigation.
• Experience acting for insurers or insureds in PI disputes; construction sector experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, professional duties and technical documentation.
• Excellent legal analysis, drafting and case management skills.
• Confidence in dealing with insurer clients and construction professionals daily.
• Team‑oriented with willingness to supervise juniors and support team development.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to engage in client development and growth strategy.
