Associate Structural Engineer

Overview

As an Associate Structural Engineer in Ramboll’s Bristol I&IF team, you lead technically complex projects, coach engineers, and nurture client relationships to support growth. You will help shape Bristol’s expansion through sector-focused delivery across rail, aviation, energy, and other critical infrastructure. You’ll work across design stages with multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, sustainable solutions while developing the local market and capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and delivery of technically complex or specialised projects, ensuring quality and successful outcomes
• Develop structural concepts, design philosophies and innovative engineering solutions
• Act as a technical reference and coach for engineers across the team
• Manage client relationships and represent Ramboll in project and technical meetings
• Collaborate with architects, contractors and other disciplines for practical, coordinated solutions
• Promote sustainable and low-carbon design and efficient material use
• Support development of the Bristol I&IF team and enhance technical capability
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery and develop new services and expertise
• Help shape and execute the Bristol growth strategy with leadership team
• Build a sustainable project pipeline through cross-functional collaboration across Ramboll

Key requirements

• Chartered engineer (IStructE/ICE) or international equivalent
• Significant experience delivering technically challenging structural projects
• High level of technical competence across steel, concrete and/or timber
• Experience taking technical responsibility and guiding other engineers
• Ability to work independently on complex problems with limited oversight
• Excellent communication skills to explain engineering concepts to clients and stakeholders
• Strong client relationship skills and collaborative mindset
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify client needs and opportunities
• Passion for innovative, efficient and sustainable engineering solutions
• Experience in rail, aviation, energy, manufacturing, data centres or other critical infrastructure
