Engineering Environments Lead

Overview

In this senior role, you will lead the transformation of a large-scale engineering environment estate to enable scalable and resilient development, testing and production services. You collaborate with Product Engineering, Platform and Infrastructure teams to shape an environment strategy, improve stability and automate operations. You will drive governance, disaster recovery and self-service capabilities, aligning with modern DevOps and SRE practices. This is a strategic, impact-focused position at a global technology company, offering the chance to influence how engineering environments scale and endure across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the engineering environments strategy
• Improve environment stability, availability and performance
• Lead disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity initiatives
• Implement automation and self-service capabilities to boost efficiency
• Establish governance, standards, ownership models and best practices across the environment estate
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Platform and Infrastructure teams to support delivery at scale
• Champion modern engineering practices including DevOps, SRE and Environment as Code
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence

Key requirements

• Proven experience leading engineering or enterprise environment functions in a large, complex organisation
• Strong background in environment strategy, governance and operational management
• Experience delivering automation, Infrastructure as Code and self-service initiatives
• Good understanding of cloud platforms, platform engineering and SRE principles
• Experience driving resilience, disaster recovery and service continuity programmes
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence senior leaders
• Track record of leading transformation across engineering teams and technology estates
