Street Environment Officer

Overview

In this role you help deliver a cleaner, safer street environment in the City of London. You join a proactive enforcement and monitoring team, with a focus on public-facing duties and lone working. You’ll handle out-of-hours responses to nuisance and waste issues, and support partnerships with police and housing teams. This is an opportunity to impact residents, businesses, and visitors by upholding environmental standards and promoting responsible waste management. The position offers structured night and weekend shifts and a clear path for training and development.

Responsibilities

• Monitor waste collection, recycling, and cleansing performance
• Enforce environmental regulations and issue Formal Notices/FPNs (face-to-face)
• Respond to out-of-hours nuisance complaints (noise, waste, illegal trading)
• Promote responsible waste management with businesses and residents
• Inspect public conveniences and report defects
• Record incidents using body-worn video and digital tools
• Collaborate with police, housing teams, and other stakeholders on enforcement initiatives

Key requirements

• Experience in regulatory enforcement or street scene/environmental services
• Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
• Comfortable with lone working, night/weekend shifts, and handling challenging situations face-to-face
• Good IT literacy and experience using reporting systems
• Full UK Driving Licence
