Senior Microsoft Cloud Platform Engineer

Overview

As Senior Directory, M365 & Server Administrator, you will own and operate Wellington’s core identity and Windows infrastructure, including AD, M365, Windows Server, and VMware. You will be embedded with US engineering teams, providing out-of-hours support from London. You will drive incident response, stability, and continuous improvement across hybrid identity and virtualization platforms. This role offers hands-on ownership in a global, regulated environment with meaningful cross-team collaboration and impact.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior level operational support for Active Directory (on prem and hybrid), Windows Server, VMware, and Microsoft 365
• Operate with domain administrator level access following security and change controls
• Ensure stability, availability, and performance of core services during non-US hours
• Manage and troubleshoot AD forests, domains, trusts, and replication; address authentication, GPO, DNS, and hybrid identity issues
• Support identity integrations with Microsoft Entra ID and downstream systems
• Provide operational support for M365 services and collaborate with engineering and architecture teams
• Troubleshoot cross-platform issues across on-prem AD, Entra ID, and M365
• Assist with VMware operations and maintain standards and operational hygiene
• Act as senior escalation point during non-US hours for incidents; perform root cause analysis
• Contribute to post-incident reviews and drive corrective actions
• Collaborate with US-based engineers; participate in team rituals and documentation
• Identify recurring issues and propose improvements; support automation and modernization across AD, server, and M365
• Maintain accurate documentation of configurations and procedures

Key requirements

• Strong hands-on experience administering Active Directory in a complex enterprise environment
• Solid experience with Windows Server platforms
• Experience supporting VMware environments
• Experience operating and supporting Microsoft 365 in an enterprise context
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex cross-platform issues involving identity, servers, virtualization, and cloud services
• Comfortable operating with elevated privileges (domain admin) in a controlled, audited environment
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with distributed teams
• Preferred: Hybrid identity environments (AD + Entra ID)
• Preferred: Enterprise-scale M365 engineering or operations
• Preferred: Experience in regulated or security-sensitive environments
• Preferred: Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell)
