Overview
In this hands-on leadership role, you will drive the People Strategy, lead the People Team, and own driver recruitment to support growth and client delivery. You will manage employee relations, including investigations, disciplinaries, and absence management, while embedding robust ER processes. You’ll partner with operations to forecast staffing needs and ensure a compliant, fair recruitment process. This role blends strategic hiring with day-to-day people operations in a fast-paced environment. You will help shape an inclusive, safety‑m focused workplace culture.

Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the recruitment team to meet establishment targets, prioritising personality fit.
- Collaborate with the People Director to design a recruitment strategy aligned with business needs.
- Coordinate with operations to forecast establishment figures and maintain recruitment pipelines.
- Oversee end-to-end recruitment processes, assist managers with job descriptions, and ensure roles are fit for purpose.
- Ensure recruitment compliance with legislation and internal policies.
- Follow all Right to Work, DVLA, and Safety Critical Medical requirements in recruitment.
- Utilise Workday for applicant tracking and onboarding.
- Manage Employee Relations cases fairly and in line with employment law, including ER case meetings.
- Review long-term absence cases regularly and ensure timelines comply with legislation and policies.
- Provide training to managers in HR processes and policies.
- Regularly review HR policies for regulatory compliance and industry standards.
- Promote SPS as an employer and collaborate with Communications on advert strategies.
Key requirements
- Proven experience delivering high-volume, in-house recruitment with an ATS and strong knowledge of recruitment law.
- Experience managing employee relations cases, payroll, and HR systems.
- 2+ years in a People/HR function.
- Up-to-date employment law knowledge and CIPD Level 3.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and recruitment advertising/attraction experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
