Lead Engineer

Overview

As Lead Engineer on the Bristol Schools project, you will deliver safe, efficient facilities management across four academies. You provide technical leadership to the engineering team, drive reactive and preventive maintenance, and safeguard high service standards. You will work closely with the Engineering Supervisor to ensure continuity of engineering services and optimal building performance. This role offers hands-on impact in a mission-driven, large-scale education project with opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Deliver reactive and planned maintenance to agreed SLAs, ensuring safety and quality
• Inspect electrical and mechanical services, plant and systems for safe operation
• Develop deep understanding of building systems and identify performance improvements
• Monitor KPIs and SLAs, prioritising work to meet targets
• Maintain accurate CAFM records and site documentation, reporting to Helpdesk
• Coordinate maintenance in the supervisor’s absence across equipment, plant, services and systems

Key requirements

• Experience in a similar role
• HNC or HND qualification in engineering (essential)
• Completion of a recognised time-served apprenticeship (essential)
• IOSH Health and Safety qualification (essential)
• Knowledge of or experience using mobile technology to manage tasks (essential)
• Proven ability to manage a varied and demanding workload (essential)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with stakeholders at all levels (essential)
• Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation including COSHH, confined space requirements and L8 (essential)
