Overview
In this role you will lead electrical design for data centres within WSP’s Mission Critical Facilities team, working from Glasgow or Edinburgh. You’ll develop conceptual electrical distribution designs and provide client advisory on system options to meet business needs. You’ll coordinate with Architects and Structural engineers, produce design development notes and technical specs, and guide projects from concept to tender and installation. You’ll engage with cross-functional teams and clients to shape reliable, scalable data centre infrastructure in a fast-paced, globally connected environment. Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual designs for electrical distribution from EHV to LV, including high voltage equipment, generation, UPS, and monitoring systems
- Advise clients on electrical system options to meet business needs
- Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment
- Produce design development notes and technical specifications ensuring standards compliance
- Coordinate with Architects and Structural engineers and ensure multidisciplinary alignment
- Prepare calculations and technical documentation for tender
- Monitor installation to ensure compliance with Employer’s requirements and safety codes
- Maintain client-facing communication and manage requirements discussions
- Work both independently and as part of the global WSP project team
Key requirements
- Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience
- Technical knowledge of UK & EU regulations and design guides
- IT literacy with Trimble (formerly Amtech) knowledge
- Understanding of ETAP for HV modelling
- Understanding of Neher–McGrath method for underground cable temperatures & ampacity
- Familiarity with Tier classifications by Uptime Institute, TIA-942 and EN 50600
- Ability to work in a team and also lead/mentor individuals
- Experience with RevitMEP or other 3D design software for work allocation
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD for project direction
