Sr. Software Engineer, Cloud Platform

Overview

As a Senior Engineer in Samsara’s Infrastructure group, you help evolve the cloud foundations that power our products. You’ll enhance safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of production systems at scale across multi-account AWS environments. You’ll apply deep expertise in core infrastructure domains to modernize compute, networking, storage, or control planes, while building reusable automation and IaC workflows. You’ll collaborate with product teams to reduce manual toil and improve customer outcomes. This is a chance to shape resilient platforms that enable rapid growth and long-term impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable cloud platforms with depth in areas like compute, networking, storage, stateful systems, or infrastructure control planes
• Improve scalability, capacity management, isolation, recovery, and cost efficiency of production infrastructure
• Create standardized infrastructure-as-code workflows and reusable automation supporting self-service provisioning, testing, rollout, reconciliation, rollback, and drift prevention
• Identify shared failure modes and implement safeguards to prevent customer impact
• Contribute to multi-account, multi-region AWS architectures, including GovCloud
• Participate in operational ownership and incident response to drive durable architectural improvements
• Mentor engineers and raise infrastructure design and operational judgment across teams
• Communicate architecture, trade-offs, risks, and migration plans to stakeholders
• Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally

Key requirements

• 6+ years designing and building software, infrastructure, or distributed systems in production
• Deep expertise in at least one area: compute/workload orchestration, networking, storage/stateful systems, or cloud infrastructure control planes
• Strong software fundamentals in Go, Python, Java, or similar
• Hands-on experience with major public cloud platforms; AWS preferred
• Experience using infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) to safely manage production infra
• Solid understanding of capacity management, failure domains, observability, rollout safety, and production recovery
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams in ambiguous spaces
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
