Principal Transport Planner – Bristol

Overview

You will lead transport planning work in a collaborative team, shaping strategies and business cases for sustainable mobility. Based in Bristol or Exeter with hybrid work, you’ll manage diverse projects for public and private clients and mentor junior colleagues. You’ll translate policy and analysis into practical transport solutions, helping communities move more safely and efficiently. This role offers visibility across projects and avenues to influence transport outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans
• Develop transport strategies, evidence bases and policy-led recommendations
• Contribute to Outline and Full Business Cases and support delivery
• Support active travel and sustainable transport schemes
• Advise clients on planning requirements, policy, and proposals
• Conduct transport analysis and appraisal to inform decisions
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary projects to integrate transport into wider schemes
• Support stakeholder engagement and public consultation
• Mentor junior colleagues and engage in career development

Key requirements

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (Engineering, Mathematics, Geography or Economics)
• Experience as a Senior Transport Planner
• Demonstrable technical understanding in areas like Local Transport Plans, Local Plans, modelling, data analysis, or policy development
• Experience using Transport Planning software
