Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry – Easington

Overview

In this role you will lead and shape the older‑person community mental health service, working within a multidisciplinary team to assess and manage cognitive and mental health needs in adults, primarily 65+. You may take on Responsible Clinician duties for patients on Community Treatment Orders and will prioritise MHA assessments for your caseload. The role offers development of a service aligned with the Trust’s business plan, with opportunities to pursue a special interest and flexible working. You will collaborate across local leadership and clinical teams to deliver high‑quality care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct clinics at the team base and home visits
• Potentially assume Responsible Clinician duties for Community Treatment Order patients
• Prioritise Mental Health Act assessments for own patients
• Qualified DOLS Mental Health Assessor for personal caseload
• Prepare ad hoc Section 49 Mental Capacity Act reports as needed
• Maintain familiarity with relevant elder care legislation
• Contribute to planning and development of the service in line with the Service Business Plan
• Collaborate with Locality Manager, General Manager, Lead Psychiatrist and Associate Clinical Director

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
• Eligible for inclusion in Specialist Register in mental health services for older people or within 6 months of gaining CCT
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Current UK professional registration
