Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry – Auckland Park

Overview

In this role you will provide medical leadership and clinical oversight for Ceddesfeld Ward, an inpatient unit for organic brain disease and dementia-related conditions. You will work with a cohesive MDT to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care and lead decisions on complex cases. The position includes responsibility as Responsible Clinician and involvement with Mental Health Act duties, with opportunities to develop a special interest. You will contribute to service improvement within a respected regional hub.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and medical leadership to the MDT and lead assessment and treatment of ward patients
• Participate in the weekday ward board rounds and attend as possible
• Ensure care aligns with dementia and Behaviours that Challenge pathways and Trust clinical pathways
• Act as Responsible Clinician for ward patients and undertake MHA/MCA duties as required
• Prioritise Mental Health Act assessments and perform DOLS assessments for personal caseload
• Support development of a special interest area and participate in annual job plan reviews

Key requirements

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
• Eligible for inclusion in Specialist Register in mental health services for older people or within 6 months of gaining CCT
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
• Clinical knowledge and skills essential for dementia and older people psychiatry
