Software Development Manager, Amazon Rufus

Overview

In this role, you lead a talented software engineering team to build AI-powered customer experiences at scale within Amazon’s Rufus initiative. You shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. You’ll partner with product and program teams to deliver high-impact features that help customers find answers, compare products, and discover recommendations. This position offers high visibility and a chance to influence a strategic, company-wide platform.

Responsibilities

• Guide strategic direction of an AI-enabled shopping assistant platform through cross-functional collaboration
• Provide technical leadership, vision and career guidance to engineers
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence and best practices
• Define and nurture an ownership-driven, high-performance engineering culture
• Collaborate with engineering, science, design and product management in an agile setup
• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage escalations, and balance business needs with technical constraints
• Manage a team of Software Engineers and translate requirements into execution plans
• Define tactical actions and a long-term vision to improve efficiency and customer solutions

Key requirements

• Experience managing a team of high-caliber Software Engineers delivering scalable systems
• Experience designing or architecting systems with patterns for reliability and scaling
• Proven track record delivering products in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
• Knowledge of full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle practices
• Experience leading multi-tier web service development
• Ability to partner with product and program management to define requirements and strategy
• Preferred: experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to describe designs and strategy
