Staff Software Engineer-AI

Overview

In this role, you help design and deliver scalable AI platforms and intelligent applications that bring cutting-edge AI capabilities into production. You will act as a hands-on technical leader, contributing code while guiding architecture and technical direction. You’ll build backend services, data and inference pipelines, and platform capabilities to support enterprise-scale AI workloads. You will apply responsible AI practices and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate strategic priorities into robust, scalable solutions. Responsibilities

• Design, code, and deliver scalable AI platforms and intelligent applications for production use
• Hands-on technical leadership with emphasis on design reviews, debugging, and production quality
• Build backend services, APIs, data pipelines, inference pipelines, and platform features for real-time and batch AI workloads
• Develop AI applications using retrieval-augmented generation, prompt orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and model optimisation
• Make technical decisions ensuring maintainability, performance, reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Establish engineering best practices through code reviews, automated testing, observability, and operational excellence
• Champion MLOps practices including model lifecycle management, evaluation, deployment pipelines, and monitoring
• Partner with product managers, data scientists, and stakeholders to translate strategy into robust technical solutions
• Build reusable frameworks and tooling to accelerate AI development across teams
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies via prototypes and production-readiness assessments, guiding patterns and trade-offs
• Mentor engineers through coaching, pairing, reviews, and hands-on problem solving

Key requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering with hands-on design, coding, testing, and operation of backend systems
• Expert-level coding in Python, TypeScript, Go, or similar and ability to contribute production code while guiding direction
• Deep expertise building enterprise AI applications with LLMs, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation, prompts, orchestration, evaluation, and optimization
• Proven track record moving AI solutions from prototype to production with trade-off decisions on performance, scalability, security, and cost
• Strong cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with production use of Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or equivalent
• Experience designing APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, and databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, vector stores)
• Leadership in influencing technical direction, mentoring through design/code reviews, pairing, and debugging
• Deep AI expertise with proven impact on transformation, innovation, and responsible AI governance
