OpenAI Engineer (Cyber Security)

Overview

In this role you will design and build AI-powered cyber defense solutions for a large public sector environment. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to prototype AI assistants, copilots, and agent-based workflows that boost SOC productivity. You will apply OpenAI technologies, RAG, and prompt engineering to automate investigations and improve detection and response. This is a mission-driven opportunity to shape AI-enabled security operations at scale while upholding Responsible AI and security governance.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI-powered solutions using OpenAI technologies and APIs
• Develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes for SOC and cyber security operations
• Create AI assistants, copilots and agent-based workflows to enhance analyst productivity
• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions with enterprise knowledge sources
• Apply prompt engineering to optimize AI performance and accuracy
• Integrate AI capabilities with SIEM, SOAR and other cyber security platforms
• Establish evaluation frameworks to measure effectiveness, accuracy and business value
• Embed Responsible AI principles and security controls throughout the solution lifecycle
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and validate high-value AI use cases
• Produce demonstrations, technical documentation and recommendations for AI adoption

Key requirements

• Experience developing solutions using the OpenAI Platform and APIs
• Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies
• Hands-on experience with Prompt Engineering and AI optimisation techniques
• Proven experience implementing RAG architectures and knowledge retrieval solutions
• Knowledge of Agentic AI and multi-agent orchestration frameworks
• Experience building AI assistants, copilots or conversational AI applications
• Strong Python development skills and experience with modern AI frameworks
• Experience working with vector databases and semantic search technologies
• Understanding of Security Operations Centre (SOC) processes and cyber security operations
• Knowledge of AI evaluation methodologies, testing frameworks and performance measurement
• Understanding of Responsible AI, security, governance and risk management principles
