Lead Software Engineer – Backend Engineer – Chase UK

Overview

In this Lead Software Engineer role, you will drive end-to-end cloud-native microservices for Chase UK within the International Consumer Bank. You will collaborate with a distributed, diverse team to deliver secure, scalable banking solutions that enhance the customer experience. You’ll tackle architecture, testing, performance, and production operations to ensure reliable, low-downtime releases. This is a hands-on opportunity to influence the technology stack and engineering practices in a fast-evolving financial services environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end cloud-native microservices-based solutions
• Apply domain modelling to design core business products
• Structure code for testability and evolvability
• Design scalable architectures to avoid single points of failure
• Develop secure code to protect customers and the platform
• Investigate and fix issues promptly to prevent recurrence
• Ensure zero-downtime releases and optimized data access
• Maintain system reliability and operational simplicity
• Keep technologies and patterns up to date
• Support products throughout their lifecycle, including production and incident management

Key requirements

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts
• Recent hands-on experience as a back-end software engineer
• Proficiency in Java
• Experience designing and implementing various tests (unit to performance)
• Excellent English communication skills
• Experience with cloud technologies and distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and web tech
• Knowledge of messaging frameworks
• Experience operating, supporting and securing mission-critical software
• Understanding of relational data stores
• Coaching others on coding practices and design principles
• Stakeholder management and prioritization across multiple work streams
