The Role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and manage the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of high-voltage electrical projects, with a particular focus on 132kV infrastructure within ICP and DNO environments.
The successful candidate will have a strong operational background within the Transmission & Distribution / HV sector, with proven experience managing multiple projects, operational teams, subcontractors and client relationships.
You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered to the required standards of health & safety, quality, programme and commercial performance, while supporting the continued growth and development of the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager, Senior Project Manager, Contracts Manager or Project Director looking to take responsibility for the wider operational performance of an established HV business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operational delivery of multiple 132kV HV projects from mobilisation through to completion.
- Manage operational teams including Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, Engineers and subcontractors.
- Provide operational leadership across ICP and DNO projects, ensuring compliance with client and network requirements.
- Oversee the delivery of HV substations, cable systems, overhead lines and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with DNOs, ICPs, principal contractors, clients and supply-chain partners.
- Review project programmes and ensure operational resources are aligned with project requirements.
- Identify and resolve operational issues, project risks and potential delays.
- Work closely with Commercial and Project Management teams to monitor project performance, costs, variations and commercial opportunities.
- Support tendering and pre-construction activities by providing operational input, methodology and resource requirements.
- Ensure all works comply with relevant DNO specifications, CDM regulations, company procedures and industry standards.
- Monitor health, safety, environmental and quality performance across projects.
- Ensure appropriate RAMS, permits, construction plans and project documentation are in place.
- Manage subcontractor performance and ensure works are completed to specification.
- Conduct regular site and project reviews, identifying areas for improvement.
- Develop operational processes and improve efficiency across the business.
- Support the recruitment, development and retention of operational personnel.
- Provide regular operational reporting to senior management.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Temporary Works / Site Management qualifications where applicable.
- Experience working under DNO safety rules.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management ability.
- Commercially aware with strong financial understanding.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Highly organised with excellent planning capabilities.
- Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels.
- Strong understanding of the UK HV / T&D market.
- Ability to build strong relationships with DNOs, ICPs, clients and supply-chain partners.
