Job overview
The Clinical Lead will provide strong clinical leadership and professional oversight within learning disability services, ensuring that people receive safe, effective, person-centred and evidence-based care.
The post holder will lead and support the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality clinical practice, promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes for people with learning disabilities, and ensure that care is delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, organisational policies and best practice guidance.
The Clinical Lead will act as a senior clinical resource for staff, providing advice, supervision, coaching and support, while contributing to service development, quality improvement and clinical governance.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an inspiring and compassionate Clinical Lead Nurse to work across our Community Learning Disability Services in Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. This is an exciting leadership role for an experienced Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) or Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) who is committed to delivering excellent care and driving meaningful change for people with learning disabilities.
Working closely with community nursing teams, Health Action Teams and multidisciplinary colleagues, you will be the professional nursing lead across all three services. You will champion best practice, support and develop staff, and provide expert clinical leadership for people with complex needs. A central focus of the role will be improving physical health outcomes, reducing health inequalities and ensuring that people with learning disabilities are able to access the same high-quality healthcare as everyone else.

Qualifications
- Registered RNLD/RNM professional with current registration with the appropriate professional body
- Degree level qualification in a relevant health profession.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to learning disabilities and leadership.
- Mentorship, practice supervision or assessor qualification, or willingness to achieve.
- Quality Improvement, Coaching or Leadership qualification.
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma-informed practice or related specialist areas.
- Registered Non-Medical Prescriber (V300 independent/supplementary prescriber qualification
Knowledge
- Experience of managing a complex caseload
- Significant post-registration experience working with people with learning disabilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of learning disability services and best practice.
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, consent, deprivation of liberty safeguards and best interest decision-making.
- Knowledge of safeguarding adults procedures and responsibilities.
- Understanding of health inequalities affecting people with learning disabilities and approaches to address these.
- Knowledge of current NHS priorities, national guidance and relevant legislation relating to learning disability services.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary team roles and partnership working.
- Experience of managing and supporting complex clinical cases involving multiple health, behavioural, psychological and social needs.
- Experience of risk assessment, care planning, safeguarding and clinical decision-making in complex situations.
- Experience of working in partnership with families, carers and external agencies.
- Experience in a senior clinical role.
- Experience of working across community learning disability services.
- Experience of supporting health action planning and reducing health inequalities.
- Knowledge of the Learning from Lives and Deaths (LeDeR) programme.
Skills
- Strong clinical assessment, formulation and care planning skills.
- Ability to provide expert clinical advice and guidance in complex and high-risk situations.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and influence others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals with learning disabilities, families, carers and professionals.
- Ability to adapt communication methods and promote reasonable adjustments.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyse information and use evidence to inform clinical practice.
- Ability to contribute to audits, investigations, service evaluations and quality improvement activity.
- Advanced presentation and training skills.
- Experience of chairing meetings or leading professional forums.
