Network Engineering Lead

Overview

In this role you will provide technical leadership for the School’s network services and drive the ongoing transformation of the network estate. You will work with a cross-functional team to ensure secure, resilient, and scalable services that support teaching, research and professional services. You will champion improvements in security, automation and operational maturity, balancing priorities in a complex, fast-moving environment. This is a chance to shape enterprise network architecture at a leading university and partner with stakeholders across the School.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for campus, wireless, remote access, data centre and network security services
• Ensure network services are secure, resilient and capable of evolving with staff, student and research needs
• Drive network modernisation, service improvements and operational excellence
• Develop a high-performing team and balance competing priorities in a complex environment
• Lead improvements in segmentation, resilience, standardisation and automation of the network estate
• Collaborate across organisational boundaries to deliver high-impact outcomes
• Support the Technology Strategy and institutional priorities through network engineering initiatives

Key requirements

• Experience leading technical teams and coordinating resources across operations, projects and service improvement
• Track record of delivering network modernisation and operational excellence
• Ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries and deliver impactful outcomes
• Passion for engineering excellence, continuous improvement and developing high-performing teams
• Strong practical expertise across enterprise-class network domains (routing, switching, wireless, remote access and network security, firewall technologies, DNS, DHCP, IPAM)
• Experience with large, business-critical networks requiring high availability, resilience and security
• Experience working with both technical and non-technical teams to implement operational services and change programmes
